It looks as if I will be moving my book commentary to this site. I thought I disliked it at first, but my natural laziness shown through and it is much easier to keep on top of. Stay tuned to see what my blog becomes (as yet unknown even to myself)...

Unexplained Fascination

I find that I have an unending fascination for the Asian culture. Recently I read, Snow Flower and the Secret Fan by Lisa See. I found it very interesting, especially in regards to the details it gave on foot binding and marriage. Along these same lines, I would whole-heartedly recommend Arthur Golden's Memoirs of a Geisha. I read this years ago and was very delighted with it. I read very few novels over again, but this book is actually on my short-list of novels I've re-read and would like to add to my personal collection. I was housesitting at the time and found I'd run out of library books. It was a dire situation as I was using every spare moment I had out by their pool acquiring a golden tan and I desperately needed something entertaining to read while I sweat the hours away under the broiling sun. I perused the books shelves at the home and begrudgingly decided to give "Memoirs" a try. Very quickly, I found that I could not put it down.

Guilty Pleasure

I confess to enjoying young adult fiction. It's so easy to read and unless you've had an upbringing that involved vigorous and lengthy homeschooling, it's easy to relate to. Case in point, Meg Cabot's works, which include "The Princess Diaries". Most recently, I read Pants on Fire, another teenage love story. Altogether not a thought provoking read, but enjoyable nonetheless as I sat in my air conditioned home, on my extremely comfortable couch while outside plants and people wilted in the heat.
